From Bishkek to Issyk-Kul lake, for 112 km road goes through the Boom gorge, which is located on the eastern end of the Kyrgyz ridge and is the only corridor between them. ”Boom” means "evil spirit" - the valley was named in the 19th century by Peter Semenov Tian-Shansky, who visited it in 1850. He wrote in his notes the following...

"Boom gorge is a death trap. We could hardly move along our path, which did not always run along the bank of the river, because the sheer cliffs broke off completely vertically, forcing us to climb up this stone corridor. In order to avoid such detours, we, where possible, crossed the river, fighting the rapid current that covered the huge stones and every second it was intended to wash us away. "

Semenov and his team have spent twenty-one days to overcome the 22 km gorge.

Near the "Red Bridge", that crosses the river Chu, at the midpoint of the gorge, there is a way into the Konorchak canyons, about 20 km down the road.

On the way there are statues of the snow leopard, golden eagles and red deer and rare "pioneers." Numerous cafes along the way provide an opportunity to the travelers to relax while traveling.

In different parts of the canyon there are protective walls designed to prevent roads from landslides.

In the gorge there are many opportunities for hiking, mountaineering and mountain rafting.
